They Tranquilized My Sister...

They Tranquilized My Sister…
Double Dees is my best friend and he recently had appendicitis. While he is fine now, after a successful surgery, I came to a serious realization.

While Double Dees was in the hospital, recovering, I had no idea who to contact in the event that something more serious would have happened.

As same gender loving black men, we rarely share our family information. It is imperative that we know our friends and that we know their family (at least their closest kin’s contact information).

Happy Birthday Douglas…
This weekend is Douglas’s big 3-0. The First Family of Atlanta is hosting a party for him at the balcony of The Wetbar. While talking to Douglas, we both came to a realization about the looming 30’s. It is appropriate for some things to change when the 20’s past us by. A 30 year-old man in a fitted is just not as cute as it used to be… We need a book on what’s hot and what’s not for a man in the 30’s. And from going to Bulldogs on Thursday, so do most of Atlanta.

Come out to the party… It really will be off the chain… 960 Spring St NW

Happy Birthday to Douglas and a speedy recovery Double Dees.

I shared my contact info once and it was in dire emergency that they contact him, my brother! ICE is in my phone and on my computer. also in my wallet and car... You never know what can happen!

The contact information issue is important. Morbid, maybe, but the more I get to know people online, the more I wonder ... how would I know if something happens to them? Weird, I know.

Then there was that time the brutha I was with took some sex enhancement pill and I thought his heart was going to explode. I wondered ... if it does, who do I call.

Everyone's cell phone has an entry for "mom" I figured.

Honestly, the book is in your head. LOL!! I'm dead serious when I say that you go through a transformation. You spend your late 20s resisting the big 3-0. Then it comes and hits you and you say to yourself. I lived through it. It is not so bad. I feel the same way I did on my last day of 29. LOL!!

But every 30 year old should know two things. One, time to put the 20s away and close the chapter cause you can't go back. Two, the 30s is just another decade to start over in because you have more money than you did at 20 and fewer friends because you find that its all about quality now, not quantity. Quality in everything, your style, your personality, you are a grown and sexy mofo now. Act like it and say how you feel.

I'm wishing a speedy recovery to Double Dee's, and a happy birthday to Douglas.

As for as my friends knowing my family, my best friend and I have been bestfriends for over 15 years. Needless to say he knows my whole family and vice versa. This is a great piece to share with others in the event there is an accident. I too have ICE in my phone.

Um, my question is the same and Kennonp...yup, who's he?

And you're right about that emergency information situation!

This is so true now that I think about it. Outside of Slick none of my SGL friends know anything about my family.

Douglas, I so enjoyed your party.

good post! i think being SGL makes one want to maintain a level of secrecy about family, but friends need to know SOMEBODY to contact.

Sorry to hear about the lack of information that was available to you during your friend's hospital stay.

I agree we are often so very private when something happens our own friends have no idea who the next of kin may be or how to contac them.

Pleased to hear that you were there for your friend. hope he is doing better.
